Ask A Priest Anything: Who made God?
That’s a brilliant question—and not easy to think about!
Everything in our universe has an origin - it comes from somewhere. Trees grow from seeds, houses are built by people, and we are born from our parents. So it makes sense to ask, “Who made God?”
But in Christianity, God isn’t something made inside the universe—God is the source of the universe (and the universe means ‘everything!’)
So instead of being made, we think of God as something that has always been and from which everything else comes.
It’s okay if that feels a bit mind-bending. Good questions about God often are (which is why we also need words like ‘mystery’ for things we don’t quite understand.)
But if God is the source of all things - including you and me - then imagine how special we each are to God!
