Prayers for the Fifth Sunday After Pentecost

Intercessions for Sunday 28 June 2026

Sovereign God, just as you provided for Abraham, we look to you to provide for all who are facing conflict and economic hardship. Break the power of systemic injustice and greed. Move those in authority to govern with righteousness; to protect the vulnerable and ensure the resources you provide us with are shared. We pray that all people have the chance to experience peace and security in this world.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

Gracious God, your Son, Jesus, reminds us that whoever welcomes his followers welcomes him. We pray that your Church will always be a sanctuary that welcomes all with open hearts, open hands and open minds. Bless our Parish of Kenmore-Brookfield and inspire us to continue to be an inclusive community where differences are treasured, questions are encouraged, and everyone finds a place at your table.

We pray for Archbishop Jeremy, Bishop’s Sarah, John and Cam, and all clergy and lay representatives gathered for Synod. Pour out your Holy Spirit upon them; and grant them clarity of mind, mutual respect, and a shared vision. May the decisions they make this weekend strengthen the mission and witness of our diocese.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

Loving God, your gospel teaches us to offer refreshing waters to the those who are thirsty. We thank you for all who serve in the many ministries within this parish and our local community, that are providing care to those in need. Open our eyes to the hidden needs amongst us so that we may extend the many blessings you have given us to all who are lonely, sick and facing hardship, especially to those who don’t know who to turn to for support.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

Merciful Lord, just like King David, there are many who cry out, ‘How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?’ We hold before you those in our parish, families and communities who feel overwhelmed by sorrow, physical pain, mental distress, or deep anxiety. Turn and answer them, Lord. Bring them comfort and healing and assure them that they are never forgotten or abandoned by you.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

Eternal God, your Apostle Paul reminds us that the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. We thank you for all those who have finished their earthly race and now rest in your peace. Comfort those who are grieving the loss of loved ones in our community today. May we, with all your saints, be brought from death to life and share at last in your glorious, eternal kingdom.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

Almighty God, accept these prayers we offer today. Grant that our hearts may rejoice in your salvation as we sing your praises, for you have been good to us.

As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray…
